## Tutorial: a worked example

Use the steps below to confirm the skill is installed correctly and to see the shape of a typical output.

1. Download the zip below and unzip it into your Claude skills folder.
2. Claude Code picks the skill up immediately (hot-reload). For Cowork or Claude Desktop, restart the app if the skill does not activate.
3. Open a new chat and describe a task that matches the trigger described above.
4. Watch for Claude to mention the skill name in its response. That confirms the skill activated.
5. Verify the output against a known-good example. For most skills, the first run gets 80 to 95 percent of the way there.
6. Iterate by editing the SKILL.md file inside the unzipped folder. Claude Code hot-reloads the change; you can test the new wording in the same session.

## Common mistakes

- Skipping the verification step. Most skills are good but not perfect on first run; the verification is what catches the gap.
- Trying to chain too many skills at once. Each skill is best applied as a discrete step in a workflow, not stacked in parallel.
- Editing the description in SKILL.md without testing. The description is what triggers Claude to use the skill; small wording changes can stop it activating.
- Assuming an installed skill is broken when Claude does not mention it. Often the trigger description does not match the user wording closely enough. Edit the description, save, and try again.
