# Ship one working AI system in 30 minutes: the solo professional setup

You can be using AI on a real piece of work by Friday afternoon for the price of one calibration session. The 30-minute starter splits cleanly: 5 minutes to pick the right assistant, 10 minutes to calibrate it to your voice, 10 minutes to ship one workflow on a real task, 5 minutes to lock in next Mondays session. Tools: one paid assistant (Copilot, Gemini, Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus) at £14 to £18 a month. By the end of the session you have used AI on actual work, not read another article about it. By the end of week two, five workflows are running.

## The 30-minute breakdown

- 5 minutes: pick the right assistant.
- 10 minutes: calibrate to your voice.
- 10 minutes: ship one tiny workflow.
- 5 minutes: schedule the next session.

## Step 1: Pick the assistant (5 minutes)

- If you live in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook): Copilot at £18/mo.
- If you live in Google Workspace: Gemini, included in your Workspace plan.
- If you do varied work and want voice fidelity: Claude Pro at £16/mo annual.
- If you want the broadest tool integration: ChatGPT Plus at £16/mo.
- Pick one for week one. Add a second only after week two.

## Step 2: Calibrate to your voice (10 minutes)

1. Find three pieces of your own writing: a sent email, a LinkedIn post and a paragraph from a proposal.
2. Open the assistant. Paste the three pieces under one heading: These are three examples of my writing. Read them and produce a voice profile.
3. Save the voice profile to the assistants global preferences (Settings, Profile, How would you like the assistant to respond).
4. Now every chat reads in your voice without you re-pasting.

## Step 3: Ship one tiny workflow (10 minutes)

Pick the workflow you would otherwise do today. Run it through the assistant.

- Email triage: paste a long client email. Ask for a summary, the implicit question, and a draft reply in your voice.
- Status update: paste a list of what you did this week. Request a 4-bullet update for a client or your team.
- Meeting prep: paste yesterdays meeting notes. Pull out the three things you committed to next week.
- Pick one. Run it. Send the output (after editing).

## Step 4: Schedule the next session (5 minutes)

- Block 30 minutes on your calendar for next Monday at 09:00. Same setup, second workflow.
- By Friday of week two, you will have 5 workflows running through the assistant.
- By the end of week two, the assistant has earned its fee on time saved.

## What you ship

One calibrated assistant and one working workflow on a real task by Friday afternoon. Charge clients £100 to £250 for the same 30-minute starter session: 15-minute audit (tasks and tools), 15-minute setup (calibration and one workflow). Most clients buy a 4-week follow-up to expand the workflow library to 10 to 15 patterns.

## Common mistakes

- Picking too many tools. One in week one is plenty.
- Skipping the voice calibration. Without it, every output reads like default AI.
- Reading articles instead of shipping. Ship the first workflow today; refine next week.
- Trying to automate the wrong thing first. Automate something you do every week, not a one-off.

## What to build next

Pair this with the ChatGPT setup tutorial for the deeper 60-minute calibration once the starter has landed, and the WIRE Method for picking the second workflow.

## Questions people ask before they start

### Do I need to pay for an assistant?

For real solo professional work, yes. Free tiers are useful for testing prompts; the £16 to £18 a month for the right paid plan pays back in the first hour saved.

### Can I do this on the train?

Yes. The setup runs in any browser. Test the workflow on a real piece of work though, not on the example you make up on the train.

### What if my voice profile is wrong?

Re-run the calibration with three different writing samples. The profile improves with more representative input.

### Is 30 minutes really enough?

For the starter session, yes, that is the whole point. By week two you will need 60 to 90 minutes for the deeper setup; by week four the system has settled into your daily workflow.

### What if my work is mostly off-screen and meeting-heavy?

Start with meeting notes capture (Otter or Fathom free) instead of the assistant. The 30-minute starter still applies; the workflow is summarising yesterdays meeting into next-step actions.
